In October 2023, Brian celebrated his 20 year service with us!
He is a valued member of the team and we appreciate all his hard work over the years
In March 2022 we organised our very own walking challenge for Cash for Kids. Over the course of the month we were aiming to walk the entire area of Dumfries and Galloway, which is a whopping 2481 miles or 5,239,872 steps.
Despite some weary legs we pulled out all the stops and walked a staggering 5,850,28 steps!
More importantly, we raised a significant amount of money for the local Cash for Kids charity
In 2021 we opened our onsite butchery giving us the flexibility to experiment with new recipe ideas, monitor production and keep up with demand. The introduction of a dry ager is another exciting new addition.
In 2021, we launched our online ordering app making it easier than ever for our customers to place orders at any time of the day
In 2020 we held our second trade show. The business-to-business event at The Cairndale Hotel on February 26 was to highlight Thomsons’ product range to current and potential customers. More than 50 suppliers, including over 20 local and Scottish businesses – one from as far as Orkney – took part, showcasing a wide range of products, from compostable coffee cups, to cakes, cheese, eggs, hotdogs, noodles and ice cream.
In 2019 we won the “Best Family Business” category at the 2019 Dumfries & Galloway Life awards.
In 2018, for the first time, Thomsons hosted trade fair showcasing ranges and services to existing and potential new customers which attracted over 250 people. This event was a first for Dumfries and we continue to hold the event every two years.
In 2018 we received the “Outstanding Small Business Award” from The Dumfries and Galloway Chamber of Commerce.
In 2014 Thomsons joined Fairway Foodservice. The buying group membership coincided with a move to a new 15,000 sq. ft. warehouse and in the following 12 months Thomsons Foodservice significantly increased its turnover, largely due to a substantial increase in sales of frozen and ambient produce. By then Dennis’ daughter and Michael’s wife Jackie, a former environmental health officer, had also joined the company and the couple formally took over the reins.
Keen to keep the business in the family, he took on his son-in-law Michael Watt in 2002. Michael introduced computer technology and redeveloped the company’s base but, with no space to further expand, the decision was made to relocate to much larger premises in Dumfries.
