We are currently in the process of having a sustainable transport review by Home Energy Scotland which will give recommendations to help reduce the cost and carbon impact of our current transport and travel arrangements, replacing them with new, more efficient alternatives, including plug-in vehicles where appropriate.
Currently our state-of-the-art vehicles have multiple temperature compartments meaning they can carry a large range of frozen, chilled and ambient products to maximise their loading capabilities and reduce the number of our fleet on the road each day.
OUR SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENT
We continually challenge ourselves and strive to build our business with the environment, our communities and the local economy at heart.
We recognise the devastating affect that plastic pollution is having on our local environment which is why we have started sourcing from alternative suppliers and brands. We now only offer our customers paper straws and plant based takeaway products. By introducing our customers eco conscious Scottish brands, such as Vegware, we are empowering them (and their customers) to confidently refuse single use plastic products.
By introducing a new ordering app we will be able to receive orders electronically which will greatly reduce our paper costs, as currently we write orders on paper then manually input them into our computer system. We are also embracing digital marketing to reduce our print.
Throwing away food due to sell by dates is detrimental to our business both financially and environmentally. We aim to remove this problem before it has arisen by closely monitoring our stock levels and sell by dates daily. On placing orders with suppliers, we calculate the most realistic quantity we will require from previous buying and selling records to prevent unnecessary waste. Any stock that has a reduced sell by date is either sold to the customers who will be able to use these products straight away, at a reduced rate, or donated to our local food banks and charities.
Reusing our waste is much more beneficial to the environment than recycling. Wherever we can we reuse our cardboard boxes for storing customer orders, re-boxing damaged packaging and invoice archiving. Furthermore, we are partnered with an oil collection company to provide a service to our customers whereby their waste oil and hard fats are collected, treated and converted into biofuel. Biofuel is a greener alternative petroleum diesel which results in the reduction of carbon emissions.
